‘Embracing old and new’:

Old - understanding existing context: its various typologies, material qualities and social contexts New - responding to the current context, how people are living during Covid and how this experience may change how we live and work, new technological imperatives, innovative materials and construction methods, changing consumer expectations and new ways of living in the city.

‘The poetics of dwelling:

Phenomenology, [the experiential aspect of inhabiting a place], the art of living well: a sense of place, sensory qualities of light, mood, tone, colour, enclosure, boundaries, acoustics, smell and touch, social connectivity, [mitigating loneliness] , areas for contemplation and retreat, navigating public and private, ‘defensible space’ and ‘eyes on the street’ which contribute to the sense of feeling safe.

‘Collective sustainability’:

Utopian visions, multi-generational dwellings, places for gathering and assembly, overlapping uses and typologies, active landscapes and sustainable food production, flexibility over time, habitus, a collective responsibility for the use of water, power & domestic waste.
